Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society Hans Herr House & Museum

The 1719 Hans Herr House is both the oldest surviving house in Lancaster County and the oldest house in Lancaster County. The house has been restored and furnished to recreate its colonial era appearance. On your tour, you'll walk through the 1719 house itself to get a glimpse of early Pennsylvania home life.

You'll also see three Pennsylvania German farmhouses, several barns, a blacksmith shop, smokehouse, outdoor bake oven and an extensive collection of farm equipment spanning three centuries on the grounds. Your tour will also include the recently built replica Native American longhouse. The longhouse helps the museum to provide a more complete view of early Pennsylvania life that includes the lives of its native people.

The house has been restored and furnished to reflect the period, with the recent addition of a replica Native American longhouse. The museum collects, preserves and interprets artifacts relating to the history, life and faith of Lancaster County's first European settlers to tell the story of early Pennsylvania life.
