"An eclectic fusion of global cuisine," says Wambui Maina of the menu at Isabella's Cafe, the Oakhurst area Decatur restaurant that she opened in the summer of 2010. At first glance, it may seem like a random collection of food, but Wambui says it really tells a story of all the places and people she's been exposed to over the years. It's a tasty tale. Originally from Kenya, Wambui moved to the United States at age 13 while her physician mother earned a master's degree in public health. A stint in New Orleans enhanced Wambui's appreciation for very flavorful slow-cooked food. Cooking became her passion and she eventually opened Isabella's Cafe. Isabella honors her mother's name and has become quite the foodie spot in Atlanta.
