Fort William Henry

History comes alive with the help of costumed tour guides who explain the whos, whys and hows of Fort William Henry. Situated on the southern point of Lake George, the fort was an important redoubt for the British in the 1750s while they battled the French and their Native American allies.

Learn about the soldiers who were stationed inside the walls, the women and children who lived and worked to support the men, and the ultimate downfall and tragic last days of the fort. Live artillery demonstrations, musket ball manufacturing and mustering drills are showcased, plus kids can join in the fun of marching in the Kings' Army, complete with uniform, musket, keepsake certificate and souvenir coin.

Fort William Henry is a recreation of the British fort that occupied the site in the mid 1700s during the French & Indian War. Backdrop for the James Fennimore Cooper novel "The Last Of The Mohicans," it played an integral part in the history of northern New York and the route between New York City and Montreal. Tours and a museum reveal the life and times of a soldier and families stationed at the fort.
